World Premiere: Sept 25th, 2016 at Landestheater Coburg
They are wearing eye patches, have wooden legs and are great musicians: Proper pirates know, what they owe their fans. And hey – after all they’re always a little on the guilty side. They spit, brawl, swear and search for treasures that they once hastily hid while fleeing from the fallout of some mischief yet again.
The adventure-rock-musical „Treasure Island“ by Matthias Straub and Roland Fister connects the story of the famous pirate-novel by Robert Louis Stevenson with modern day rock music. The music selection of Roland Fister ranges from Deep Purple all the way up to Rammstein. Quotes from well-known movie soundtracks take turns with rock classics of the past 30 years. The arrangements will either drive the story forward as straight forward cover versions or comment ironically on the plot through combining or blending different rock songs.
The complete ensemble of actors is involved in the musical action from the occasional ballad until the grand final chorus number. In addition to the rock band with bass, guitar, keyboard and drums a violin adds the color of Irish folk.
„The breath of this production is coming from Fisters musical composition. He has found a treasure chest himself with pieces from the rockier areas of rock history. (…) While he has not only just cunningly picked the right pieces from music history; he combines them in his arrangement to a powerful, even intoxicating soundscape; creates atmosphere with his onomatopoetic work“ (Coburger Tageblatt)
„Out of speed folk, stoner-rock, metal and black soul, powerful rock and kitschy pop music, conductor and composer Roland Fister has created a soundtrack full of witty references and brave mashups that he makes his classic 4-person rock combo send forcefully out of the orchestra pit.“ (Coburger Neue Presse)
